When it makes sense

Five signs your website needs redesigning, and one sign it does not

We rebuild your website around how your buyer actually evaluates you, keep the rankings you have already earned, and hand it over in eight to twelve weeks, built so your team can run it without calling an agency every week. First, though, the honest question: does it need redesigning at all? The company has changed and the site has not. You have a new product, a new market or a new price point, and the homepage still describes the business from three years ago. Prospects arrive, read the old story, and leave before anyone talks to them. Sales keeps explaining what the website should have said. If your best people spend the first ten minutes of every call correcting an impression the site gave, the site is costing you those ten minutes and the prospects who never called. Your team cannot change a page without a ticket. A site nobody can edit stops being updated, and a site that is not updated starts lying. Traffic arrives and nothing happens. Visitors are coming, the analytics say so, and the enquiry form is quiet. That is a structure and proof problem, not a traffic problem. It looks smaller than the company is. You are pitching against bigger competitors with worse products and losing on first impression. And the one sign it does not: you are bored of it. Boredom is not a brief. If the site is converting and your buyers do not complain, spend the money on the product. We will tell you that on the first call, which happens more often than you would think.

What a redesign includes

Three jobs, in this order

A redesign is a content and structure project with a design project inside it.

01

Audit

What ranks, what converts, what sales hears on calls. The redirect map starts here, not in launch week.

02

Architecture and copy

Who the site is for, in what order they decide, and the words that answer them. Design starts when the words exist.

03

Design, build, migrate

Every page as a system your team can extend. Built in WordPress, React or headless, or handed to your engineers. Launched without losing rankings.

Rankings and migration

A redesign should not cost you the rankings you already have

Most redesigns lose traffic because the old addresses disappear and nobody noticed which pages were earning. We audit what currently ranks before anything moves, map every old address to a new one, keep the structure that is working and improve the parts that are not. The redirect map is a named deliverable, checked before launch and again the week after. If the site has never ranked for anything, a redesign is the moment to fix that: one page per thing you sell, written the way buyers search, with the questions they ask answered on the page. The3Key came out of its redesign with 77% more conversions. Air Landline came out with 62% more organic traffic.

What it costs

A number before you commit

A redesign is priced as a fixed scope with a date, and you get the number at proposal stage. For the bands across the UK market, from template to custom, read how much a website costs in the UK. For what a build from us includes, stage by stage, see website design.

Redesigns we have shipped

What we rebuilt

The3Key, accountancy

A character-led brand and a site that refuses to look like the category. 77% more conversions. Awwwards Honoree.

Servebolt, managed hosting

Three buyer paths, proof moved to where buyers land, a shorter route to trial. Concept to live in three months on a WordPress build the marketing team owns.

Air Landline, VoIP

Price first, a trial in three clicks, an illustrated cast instead of stock photography. Organic traffic up 62%.

Wise, workforce compliance

A compliance platform sold to both sides of it: one site for logistics carriers and construction firms, rebuilt around a compliance-first position in time for the rebrand.

FAQs

Questions people ask before a redesign

Most of the redesigns we take on sit between £8,000 and £30,000. The three things that move the number are page count, whether we build it or hand it to your engineers, and how much of the content already exists. We give you an honest band on the first call, then a fixed price against a fixed scope before you commit.

Eight to twelve weeks from kickoff to live when the copy exists. If the content has to be written from scratch, add a month: words are what move the date, not design. Servebolt was three months from concept to live across more than ten pages. You get the date at proposal stage and we hold it.

Not if it is done properly. We audit what is currently ranking, map every old address to a new one before anything moves, keep the structure that is earning and improve the rest. The redirect map is a named deliverable, checked before launch and again the week after.

Usually, and sometimes you should not. We build in WordPress, React or headless, chosen for what your team has to run afterwards. If you are on a platform your team can edit and it is not the thing holding the site back, we keep it. If the platform is the problem, we say so before you commit to anything.

Both, and you choose. We can design and build the whole thing, or hand your engineers documented components and tokens and stay available while they build. Either way the person who designed it is in the build review.

Access to your analytics and Search Console, an hour with whoever does the selling, and a decision-maker who can say yes. Most redesigns slip because of sign-off, not design, so we ask who that person is in week one.

Essay

A redesign is a content project

Design and build are the predictable part of a website project. The words are not, and the words are yours.

Essay

How much does a website cost?

A UK website costs anything from £10 a month to £30,000 or more, and the word "website" is doing a lot of hiding. Template or custom is the real question. Here is how to tell which you need.
