Why design systems
Judged by the pages built without us
A design system looks complete at handover. The real test comes months later, when your team builds a page or a feature we never saw. SolusVM's marketing team builds pages from more than 25 modular components, with no design queue. WHMCS assembles every page of its website from one set of components, so the site stays consistent as the product changes. The WHMCS buy flow runs on a small set of colour tokens, so one setting re-themes every page. The method is the same each time. Find the patterns in what you already have, and give each one a single version. Then write down the rules and name the tokens against your code.
What we design
What a system includes
Every button, table and form in the product, counted and grouped. We know how many versions of each exist before we design one.

What we have built
Systems in use
SolusVM, WebPros
A modular website design system of more than 25 components. The homepage, pricing, features, solutions and free trial pages are all built from the same blocks, on desktop and on phones. See SolusVM.
WHMCS admin concept
Four page types, overview, list, detail and form, each with one layout, one table, one filter panel and one set of actions. Light and dark themes share one set of tokens. A 2025 concept, never built. See the concept.
WHMCS buy flow
Colour tokens let every hosting brand on WHMCS make the checkout its own. Five starter themes ship with it: Default, Blue, Purple, Green and Red. See the buy flow.
Freelogo, HostPapa
An AI tool that makes endless variations needs firmer rules than a fixed product. Components, states and rules for type, colour and spacing keep every generated logo and business card ready to export. See Freelogo.
Servebolt
The identity stayed and the system was brought back into line around it. Components that did the same job in different ways became one, and the marketing team extends the WordPress site without us. See Servebolt.

Design system design for SaaS products and websites
Grid designs design systems for software products and the marketing sites that sell them. A system from us is a component library with tokens, documentation, usage rules and a version history. A new screen is assembled from parts that already exist.
For products, we design every state of every component: empty, loading, error, partial and permission denied. Tokens are named against your code, so designers and engineers mean the same thing by the same word.
For websites, the system is a kit of page blocks your marketing team assembles in the CMS. SolusVM's marketing team launches new pages and campaigns this way, and the site stays consistent as the product moves on.
“The attention to detail and in-depth knowledge the team hold at Grid Design is what sets them apart from the rest. … Really impressed with the entire experience.”

Questions teams ask about design systems
When your engineers start inventing components, or the same job looks different on two screens. If you have one product and a handful of pages, a few good templates may be enough, and we will say so.
Closer to five weeks on its own. As part of a full product engagement, it is built across the twelve weeks alongside the interface. You get the date at proposal stage, before you commit to anything.
Yes, and it is the usual case. WHMCS and SolusVM had years of features behind them. We map what exists first, keep what works and give each pattern one version.
That is the point of it. The library is built in Figma with tokens named against your code and every state specified. We stay on hand while your engineers build it.
Yes. SolusVM's homepage, pricing, features, solutions and free trial pages are all built from the same modular components. Marketing launches pages without a design queue.
Your team. We write the governance rules and run a session with the people who will use it. If you want us to stay on, a retainer covers the design system, new pages and the next feature, agreed quarterly.
The brief writer. Four questions, about a minute, and you leave with a written brief whether or not you ever talk to us. Or email hello@griddesign.co.uk and a founder replies personally.
