Show the product working, then explain it

WHMCS automates billing, provisioning and support for web hosting companies. It is part of WebPros, alongside cPanel, Plesk and SolusVM, and works with more than 100 domain registrars and 70 payment gateways.

The product does a great deal, and the website tried to say all of it at once. We redesigned it page by page around one rule: show the product working before asking anyone to read about it. The redesign launched across the pages that carry the sale, the feature pages behind them and the components they are all built from.

01 The challenge

A big billing product, buried in its own features

WHMCS covers billing, provisioning, client management, domains and support. The old site gave all of it the same weight, so a hosting company arriving for the first time could not quickly tell what the product would do for them or what it would cost. The brief was a site that leads with the outcome, keeps pricing in reach and still gives the technical buyer the detail they come for. Every page had to work for the owner of a small host and for the engineer who sets it up.

02 The idea

A billing software website that shows the product working

Every page opens with the product doing its job. The homepage hero is one diagram: a signal runs from manual processes, billing errors and scaling problems, through WHMCS, to the results and on to the customer. Pricing sets the plans side by side, with Get Started always the next step. The integrations grid lets a buyer find their own payment gateway in seconds, as each tile fills with its brand colour. The SSL page does the same, showing a certificate land, issue and install before it explains anything.

03 The system

A website design system the WHMCS team can reuse

Every page is assembled from one set of components: heroes, feature cards, plan cards, carousels, forms and calls to action. New pages come from the same kit, so the site stays consistent as the product changes. The proof section on the homepage is one of those components. Its result cards open one at a time, so each figure has room to be read instead of arriving as a wall of numbers. Plan cards, gateway tiles and result cards share the same spacing, type and motion.

04 Feature pages

Hosting automation feature pages in one diagram style

Each feature page opens the same way: a headline, a short line and a diagram drawn in one illustration style, with connector lines that show how the work moves. On the migration page, clients, invoices, tickets and domains leave the old provider and arrive in WHMCS. Support, billing, domains, ordering and project management each get their own. A buyer can see what a feature does before reading a word about it.

05 One route

One route from homepage to pricing to tour, on any screen

Three pages carry the sale. The homepage says what WHMCS does and shows it. Pricing keeps the choice simple. The product tour goes deep for the buyer who wants every detail. The Product menu keeps all three within reach from any page. The same components reflow for phones, so the order of the pages and the calls to action hold on a small screen. Wherever a buyer starts, pricing is never more than a click away.

FAQs

Questions about the WHMCS website design

We redesigned the WHMCS marketing website page by page, built a design system the WHMCS team can reuse, and prototyped the key journeys. The aim was one clear route from homepage to pricing to product tour, so hosting companies can see what the billing platform does and what it costs quickly.

Show it working before asking anyone to read. The WHMCS homepage opens with a diagram that runs from manual processes and billing errors through WHMCS to outcomes. Pricing sits one click away, and the product tour holds the depth for technical buyers who want every detail.

Three plans, Plus, Professional and Business, sit side by side with the most popular plan marked, and a comparison table underneath for buyers who need the detail. Each card lifts on hover with a clear Get Started button, so choosing a plan does not mean reading a feature matrix first.

A single set of components, such as heroes, feature cards, plan cards, carousels, forms and calls to action, that every page is assembled from. For WHMCS it means the team builds new pages without a design queue, and the site stays consistent as the product changes and new features ship.

Yes. The same components reflow for phones, so the homepage keeps its headline and its order, and the pricing cards keep their Popular tag and Get Started buttons. The route from homepage to pricing to tour works the same on a small screen, without a separate mobile design to maintain.
